• JOB DESCRIPTION:

    We’re looking for a caring and enthusiastic Preschool Teacher to join our team! In this role, you’ll help plan and lead engaging daily lessons that support the growth and development of young children in a safe, nurturing environment. You’ll play an important part in making sure each child feels loved, supported, and encouraged. Working closely with families and fellow staff, you'll help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming space—bringing any facility or equipment needs to the attention of the Director or Administrative Director.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    These may include, but are not limited to:

    Develop and Implement Programs 

    • Develop and implement a developmentally appropriate preschool program for young children.

    • Plan and conduct main activities in your classroom.

    • Plan and implement activities to meet the physical, intellectual, and social needs of the children in the program.

    • Develop activities that introduce math and literacy concepts as well as Bible stories.

    Lesson Planning and Communication

    • Provide weekly lesson plans to the director.

    • Prepare newsletters, notes, and Brightwheel messages to parents as needed.

    • Ensure all lesson materials are copied before school, after school, or during breaks.

    • Child Engagement

    • Provide various experiences and activities for children, including songs, games, storytelling, and story time.

    • Decorate the classroom with bulletin boards, pictures, children’s artwork, and other hangings.

    • Keep the room neat and tidy, avoiding clutter.

    Classroom Management

    • Establish and share policies and procedures, including acceptable disciplinary policies, with classroom students, the director, and parents.

    • Follow school time schedules for starting curriculum, snack time, nap time, etc.

    • Be familiar with and follow emergency procedures.

    Parental Interaction

    • Help parents with Brightwheel, explaining how it works.

    • Address and update the office on potential problems before they escalate. If a parent approaches you more than once about the same issue, inform the office, and they will contact the parent.

    • Document behavior or discipline problems to maintain a written summary for potential parent conferences.

    Administrative Tasks

    • Create and leave a time schedule in front of the lesson plan book, listing activities such as restroom breaks, lunch, and nap times.

    • Maintain a folder with substitute information in an easily accessible location, including daily work folders, schedule, classroom rules, playground rules, gym schedule, and other helpful information.

    • Present any critical items to the office before placing them in a child's file, including emails.

    • Issue progress reports twice a year, in January and May, and provide the office with a copy of reports for any child experiencing extreme difficulty.

    Purchasing and Budgeting

    • Purchase minor supplies, being reimbursed by the school upon furnishing receipts and an itemized list.

    • Utilize the allotted budget of $150.00 for the fall ($75 for Faithful Bears) and $60.00 for summer supplies not purchased by the school.

    Supervise children in the Preschool

    • Ensure children are supervised at all times while in your care: Restroom, recess, classroom, and lunch.

    • Comfort children as needed (hurt physically or emotionally).

    • Establish routines, provide positive guidance, and discipline methods (timeouts/bear charts).

    • Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand.

    • Observe children and do assessments—Skills and Progress Reports (twice per year).

    • Integrate special needs children in a positive manner as needed.

    • Clearly explain what a child has done to have a warning/timeout.

    • Communicating with Parents

    • Discuss children’s development with parents as needed either via Brightwheel, email, phone call or note. If needed, a meeting should be scheduled. Prior to this meeting, the director should be made FULLY aware of these issues and concerns. Use your school provided Email located on the OCC Preschool page for correspondence and cc director is related to disciplining or parent complaints.

    Maintain Program Administration

    • Keep parents informed of expectations in the classroom, school programs and other activities as best you can. The office will also do so via monthly calendar, email blasts and signs.

    • Develop and maintain current, accurate and confidential student files.

    • Monitor your personal/sick/vacation hours as best you can as per your paystub through Paycor. Teacher budget balances can be found in the white binder in the office.

    PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:
